Việt Nam and Laos need to continue nurturing and promoting the friendly special relationship – an invaluable asset of the two nations, for the interests and mutual development of their peoples, high-ranking leaders agreed.
The agreement was reached by PM Nguyen Tan Dung and visiting Lao Party General Secretary and President Chummaly Sayasone in Hà Nội on August 8.

The Vietnamese Government would spare no effort to beef up the special ties both in depth and width in all aspects, especially economics, trade, investment, the Government chief said.
The Vietnamese Government will also try to organize this year’s investment promotion conference soon while actively realizing the inked programs and agreements, and coordinating closely with the Lao Government to prepare for the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the bilateral diplomatic ties.
Việt Nam currently has 258 investment projects in Laos with total capital of over US $ 3.3 billion. Two-way trade stood at over US $300 million in the first half of 2011. Both sides set to push the bilateral trade volume to US $2 billion by 2015.
Lao Party General Secretary and President Chummaly Sayasone congratulated PM Dũng upon his re-election for the 2nd term.
The Lao leader expressed his hope to further enhance economic and investment linkages with Việt Nam on the basis of good political-diplomatic relations between the two neighbors.
He urged the two sides to speed up the popularization of the bilateral loyal and pure friendship, and cooperation among the youths in their respective countries, as well as people-to-people exchanges.
Lao Party General Secretary Chummaly Sayasone also expressed his belief that Việt Nam would continue to gain greater socio-economic achievements and rising role and position on the international stage under the sound leadership of the Vietnamese Communist Party.
