PM Nguyen Tan Dung has recently agreed to spend the total non-refundable aid from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) on the National Target Program to Response to Climate Change (NTP-RCC).

The Ministry of Finance was assigned to ink the deal with CIDA and disburse the aid by March 31, 2011.

The National Target Program, approved by the PM on December 2008, focuses on those scenarios of climate change like sea level rise, evaluating impacts of the global issue on every sector and localities, then proposing solutions to deal with the climate change.

Việt Nam is one of five most vulnerable countries to the global climate change. Experts projected that if the sea level rises one meter, around 5% of land, 11% of the population and 10% of the GDP will be affected.

Currently, 21 programs and projects on combating climate change are being carried out in Việt Nam, with a total fund of US $1.28 billion./.
